Analytically speaking, Omar's comments make no sense.
Omar hit approximately .332 in 1999, dropped to below .300 in the year 2000, so in 2001 he was "overconfident"??? Why? His average dropped over .30 points from 1999 to 2000, why be "overconfident" in 2001?
Didn't we miss the playoffs in 2000???
Even if Omar was initially overconfident, how could his .250 average justify "confidence" when the three-headed monster of Roberto Alomar, Jim Thome, and Juan Gonzalez were putting up numbers perhaps as prolific for any 3-4-5 hitters ever.
How did Omar go through the whole season "overconfident". I could see being that way, perhaps, for a month or two, but beyond that, how?
And yet, how could Omar have been "overconfident" when we missed the playoffs by one game the year before?
About the only thing Omar could have been overconfident about was that there were three hitters behind him that did a ton for our team, even though he didn't do his part by getting on base enough.

in today's cleveland.com. I was surprised to hear him say that he was overconfident last year. I agree, he seemed almost cocky at times, but it was very refreshing to hear a guy actually admit that. He also said that he's going to push his running game. At the end of the article, he hinted that he smells the HOF and that's a great motivater.
I expect a strong rebound from Omar this year. Man would that be a boost!

I think Omar was "overconfident" in his approach at the plate. He just didn't seem to have any passion to get on base if you know what i mean. He just seemed to be willing to reach out and poke a lazy pop up somewhere in the outfield.
Anyway...maybe he can turn it around. I doubt he lost that much batspeed.

Omar should have kept his mouth shut, this is controversial stuff he is saying.
OMAR GOT A TWO YEAR, 15 MILLION DOLLAR EXTENSION LAST SPRING...!!!
Is this how he repays the team, the fans, and management, by strutting out into the field this past season "overconfident"?
Give me a break.
